“Once you can accept the universe as matter expanding into nothing that is something, wearing stripes with plaid becomes easy.” ~Albert Einstein.
"You will be called upon to expand." ~Dalai Lama
“...writing is not a performance but a generosity.” ~ Brenda Ueland
There is enough space for you. There is enough room for you to exist outside of the tiny place you've carved for yourself. That place that has kept you hidden and given you the illusion of safety. That small place can not really hold you anyway. Has any smoldering star ever once asked, “Am I too big?” Has any complex galaxy resisted its call to expand? Has any planet ever taken precaution, taken heed, slowed it’s spinning, changed its colors to find acceptance or approval? Has any raging fire ever once denied it’s reactive flame? Has any towering mountain ever once stopped to worry if it was bothering anyone, taken time to feel self-conscious or twisted itself into a more acceptable state? Has any rushing river ever tried to quiet itself, thought itself too noisy? Has any redwood tree ever hunched itself over to fit in, folded its corky red bark in half and rested its leaves upon the forest floor? Has any narwhal ever said “excuse me for being so awkward...” when wielding it’s majestic tusk? Has any beast of any field or forest ever apologized for its own daring existence? Has any sunset ever worried about being the center of attention, about sharing it’s beauty with the world? Has it ever asked, for your opinion, “do you think that’s too much pink?” You are called upon to expand. What began at your conception, your expansion, is now eternally inevitable. There is enough space for you. The entire universe is getting larger by the second and it invites you to join in the experience. Grow larger, grow brighter grow bigger and freer. Let there be...you. Let there be...all of you. Let there be...the most expansive and generous you. I've been surprised by visions of my true self, the sheer size of my spirit intimidating. A massive essence towering overhead, the only thing I can see is it's foot. But to that foot, pain is irrelevant. To that enormous being there is no fear. My anxiety is like a tickle, my terror like a tiny ant, easily crushed. It’s been said that you showing up in the world is a generosity, not a performance. Indeed, all of life is a generosity. Your offering is simple and easy like the breath in your nose, the tears on your cheeks, the laughter in your belly. Your offering is complex and intentional like the noticing of a budding leaf, the witnessing of another’s life, the reaching out for connection, the discovering of unconditional love. You showing up in the world is not a performance, but a kindness. You showing up in the world is a requirement of being alive. And there is more than enough space for you.
Let there be...
Let there be...you. Let there be you.
